Regan's Getting Hitched!

My sister now has a fiancee, and I now have a future brother-in-law. It happened Christmas night, and here's a picture of the ROCK!

Here's her soon-to-be, Adam.
Can't wait to see that super-jewel in person when Lindsay & I go down there next month. I've mentioned our upcoming trip to Disney World, but after talking with Regan last night, we're apparently also going to a place called Dave & Buster's.

That's all that's going on now.

360 Comes Full Circle (get it?) & Christmas

For anyone not 'in the know', my 360 pooped out on me. It would cut to black arbitrarily in different games/apps, but the audio would still be there. I sent it back last Friday for repair, and last night, I came home to a brand new box sitting at my doorstep. WEIRD! So now I'm back to playing. The only problem I'm having now is that my gamercard (the thing in the top right of the site) isn't updating the most recent games for some reason. Whatever.

I can't WAIT for Christmas!! We're going over to Marion, IL to my Aunt Randi's house on Christmas Eve! That will be fun. I haven't been on a family road trip (even a teeny one) in a long time. I'm off Friday so I can get some last minute things done. I'm excited to see Canyon's reactions, and I'll post some pics of that morning as soon as I can.

The next thing on my calendar is to visit Regan in JAX in January. We'll hit Disney World and see the sights of the big J. We've already gotten the tickets and the time off.. now we just have to wait.

Oh, and King Kong was SWEET! I can't wait to see it again. It's no Oscar winner, it's just a GREAT, FUN movie to watch with amazing special effects and cool dinosaurs and stuff.

I'm on the market for a new iPod now, so if you're selling, let me know. And I think I'm going to sell my 15GB Gen 3 iPod. I'm getting too full, with all the podcasts now that I'm getting interested in.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Sunday Morning, Chilling

Okay, I'm hanging out in my office Sunday morning, listening to some news podcasts, playing Xbox Live.

I'm SO excited for King Kong this week. I've played through some of the game on my 360, and decided to stop, so I don't see too much. Not that I don't know what's going to happen in the end.. I just don't want some of Peter Jackson's specific twists to be spoiled.

I get to go back to my normal schedule this week. Last week, my assistant Web Producer was off, so I had to work a funky shift of noon to 8pm. Now I'm back to my 9-6, and I couldn't be happier.

The snow wasn't too bad this week. I have a total snowfall map from Wayne here.

Not a whole lot more to tell you about. And I'm not even sure who "you" is in that last sentence. Probably Regan. She has left the only comments so far. Again, please buy her some stuff. She needs stuff, apparently.

Post-Thanksgiving Catch-up

We had a GREAT Thanksgiving holiday, and it was good to see family that we don't see all that often. An added bonus was the ziploc bag of turkey that came home with me afterwards. It was a nice relaxing weekend, with not much going on except for showing some buddies the Xbox 360 Saturday night. I'm looking for a CD tonight, the soundtrack to Metropolis.

Metropolis

I think it would be a good soundtrack to play most Xbox games, actually, and I'll rip it into the box when I get my hands on it. As I type this, Lindsay's anchoring the 10pm show. I don't know why I'm telling you this, but I am.

The weekend wasn't all smiles. I found out Friday that ABC's Alias has been cancelled. I know it had been losing focus now that Lost is JJ's priority, but it's still sad to see it go. I think the plotline that clearly 'jumped the shark' was when they came across a girl in EXACTLY the same situation Sydney was in as the series began, but this chick basically 'got over it' in about 2 episodes.. something it took Sydney the entire first few seasons to come to terms with.

The 360 is still wowing me. I bought King Kong Saturday afternoon, and it's unique lack of any 'HUD' really helps suck you into the story and make you a part of it, instead of being constantly reminded that you're playing a game. The only other game I've ever known to do it is The Getaway.

That's about it. Thanks for checking in. More boring is coming, don't worry.

I'm now installing the extender stuff onto my MCE so I can connect to the Tree Sitty. This thing is gorgeous!

T-Minus 18 minutes

15 or so of us waiting until midnight.. Can't wait to get home!

Getting ready for 360

I've now moved my Xbox out of pole position to make way for tonight's purchase: my Xbox 360. Really, I'm mainly testing the photo ability of my phone now with the new Sprint-Nextel merge deal. Still have sketchy details about my new job responsibilities at the station. I know I'm going somewhere, I just have no good idea of exactly where. Blogging on the phone should be fun. Hope it works well.

It's My Birfday

I woke up this morning and opened my present from my sister, (who, btw, has an eBay store - come on now, buy some stuff). It's a sweet valour tracksuit. The pants may be a little big, but the jacket is just right. Can you have valour altered? I doubt it. Tonight I'll be dining at the Nagasaki Inn with my parents. It will be delicious, I'm sure of it. It's most likely my favorite place in town.

My favorite part of that review was "This place focuses on Japanese meals."

Lindsay got me True Crime: New York City for my birf. It has a street for street recreation of NYC, although the random, normally unidentifiable buildings are not accurate (ie Lindsay's sister's apartment building). But landmarks, subway stations, skyscrapers, etc., are perfect.

3 days until the Xbox 360 is out. It will most likely be nuts at retailers Monday night and Tuesday morning. But mine's preordered and paid for. I (better) just show up and walk out with mine.

Are you still reading this?

I asked my parents for the CDs to the new movie version of Rent, and I'm looking forward to hearing how similar/different the two versions will be with only one lead actor different (Rosario Dawson instead of Daphne Ruben Vega [sp?]). The movie is released the day before Thanksgiving, so I'll have some impressions up later this week!

Last thing: Wanna see the Superman teaser? Here's a CRAPPY and a NICE one just for you!

Tornado Madness

Today begins my concentrated effort to update my blog daily. This morning's been pretty nuts. Tornado warnings mean wall-to-wall coverage. That means we're streaming on www.news25.us. We do that a really funny way, using Windows Media Encoder. Last night, I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to set my XBOX 360's Universal Remote up with my TV (which, by the way, is SWEET). Before that, Craig and I played some head-to-head Mario Kart DS, from our couches. That was incredibly fun, but setting up and matchmaking could be a lot quicker. The other thing that was fun was creating a custom "emblem".

360 Controller is Mine!

I've got it. In the mail.. from eBay. A controller for the Xbox 360 that will also work with Windows. It's a USB controller, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get used to the new button layout on my PC before the console is released on November 22nd. I've read it should also treat any headset/mic as a USB audio device. I'll find out about that later tonight. I'll post a review up on ActionCorp in the coming days. Good day: paper article, a controller and two posts on my site.

Wrapped & In Print

Alright, we've wrapped up shooting the movie now. My hair shall return. It's been a fun shoot, but it's nice to be in the next phase as well. It's in Lewis' hands to turn the 17-plus hours of footage into a feature-length film.

The Evansville Courier & Press talked with me and Lewis last week about the movie.

Director, star relish their roles
Behind scenes of the movie 'victimEYES'

By GORDON ENGELHARDT Courier & Press staff writer 464-7518 or gordone@evansville.net
October 27, 2005

Regarded as a nice, even-tempered guy in real life, Seth Cheek relished the idea of playing the despicable murderer in Lewis Chaney's movie "victimEYES."

Playing a bad guy gives an actor a chance to delve into the roles, teetering on the edge of self-parody without going over the top.

"It definitely was something I hadn't done before," said Cheek, a North High School graduate who portrays Jason Karnes

"Most of my roles in high school and the University of Evansville were more Lil' Abner musicals. I played the bad guy in 'Babes in Toyland,' but that was such a cartoony thing."

Chaney, who served as the videographer on Garth Brooks' tour of Northern Ireland in 1998 - a career highlight - has written and directed short films before. But "victimEYES" is his first full-length feature. Shooting began Aug. 6 and wrapped Saturday in Henderson, Ky., with the exception of one scene in Evansville.

"I have always loved movies, just how they're made, with the special effects and everything behind the scenes," said Chaney, a native of St. Charles, Ky., south of Madisonville. "I read everything I could get my hands on. Since I got into TV production (at WEHT-News25) and had a camera in my hand, I started doing things and banged out a script."

WEHT chief photographer Chad Rinesmith and Chaney began writing a screenplay in November 2004. Four drafts later, it was completed in March 2005. Chaney hopes postproduction will be completed in late February or early March 2006.

"I'm not sure it will get onto a movie screen," Chaney said. "I would be happy if it went straight to video. We're trying to find a distributor. It's a learning process because it's something I've never done before."

One advantage he has is the help of special-effects makeup artist Dave Snyder, an Owensboro, Ky., native who worked on "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" in 2003 and is working on "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," scheduled to be released in 2006.

Cheek, 26, and Chaney, 42, characterize "victimEYES" as a psychological thriller in which heroine Janet Kessler, played by Henderson native and UE student Katie Morton, deals with her demons. But Chaney also paid tribute to "Halloween," regarded as one of the best horror movies of all time.

"'Halloween,' I love," said Chaney, whose cast and crew worked for free. "One scene kind of pays tribute to that. The killer is there, and then he's gone."

Although the first name of Cheek's character is Jason, it in no way is a tribute to the "Friday the 13th" movies, Chaney said.

"I like classics like "The Exorcist.' I like a wide variety of movies. This one falls more into the kind of movie where it is much more suspenseful. You can see a point where it makes you jump and see a point where it makes you laugh. Hopefully, it will scare the hell out of you."

Cheek said he hadn't had a lot of opportunities in acting because his inflexible hours as Web producer at WEHT wouldn't allow him to do things such as Civic Theatre. But because Chaney is assignments manager at the same station, it allowed them to work together on "victimEYES."

Chaney has no illusions of his actors becoming the next Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie or himself becoming the next Steven Spielberg. He's a realist.

"Hopefully, out there somebody will like it," Chaney said.

Perhaps lightning of sorts will strike twice. Former Henderson resident Gregg Hale produced the low-budget horror movie "The Blair Witch Project," one of the surprise hits of 1999.

"The fact that 'Blair Witch Project' did well only reinforces that independent movie-making can make it," Chaney said. "I think the worst crime is someone not making the movie they always talk about making.

"The bottom line is, the worst we're going to do is it's a two-hour movie and we can pop it in and laugh with friends sometime. The best thing is we'll all make a little money out of it. We all had a helluva time."

New Member of the Family

I met my second cousin, Avery Elaine Kelley, yesterday. She was pretty active the first time I visited, but the second time, she was TIRED. In fact, at one point, all the people must have gotten to her, and she threw her little arm over her eyes to get some peace and quiet.

She was born at 10:18pm on October 10th. Here are a few pictures:

Long Time, No Type

It's been a while since I've been messing with my site.. and it's showing. I've got some generic templates on here right now, so I need to get working on my skin. It's kind of ghetto. I've been working on tweaking our site at the station, to get the most out of our ridiculous content provider. It'd make more sense at this point to just switch it to Blogger or something along these lines. Freedom is a good thing online.

Few things. I'm watching several good shows this year, including what could be my new favorite, How I Met Your Mother. Also good this year is Bones & The Apprentice. But you can't beat J.J.'s two masterpieces, Lost & Alias.

I'm a little worried that Alias might be taking a bizarre turn, but maybe we're just getting into a WILD new plot, and they have to make some serious changes. I just don't understand blowing away one of the two main characters 37 minutes into the new season. Oh well. I'll be back on soon... Everyone who believes that, stand on their ears.

I’m messing with BlogJet.  It’s a windows client for updating your blog.  I’m putting an image into it to test it, too.  I wonder what this will look like.  Let’s find out…05

Tuesday Musings

So the new Zelda game has been delayed until 2006. That sucks. I bought a new book tonight. So far, it's the funniest thing I've ever read. The previous title holder was a play called "Fools" by Neil Simon. But this thing blows it out of the water.

For a small taste, you can visit realultimatepower.net.

Oh, and I'm bald. Well, bald-ish. Here's a cameraphone pic..

Other than that, not much is going on. I'll have some pics from the shoot in the Henderson County Jail up tomorrow, I hope.

Long Day's Shoot

I'm working on a small, independent movie written by friends, and shot around the Evansville-Henderson area. Its working title is "Losing Sight", and is about a serial killer who's last victim escapes, but not before he bashes her in the head, blinding her. The rest of the movie is her coping without sight, as the killer comes back to finish the job. Today we shot in the Henderson County Jail. It was really fun, but EXTREMELY tiring. I'm about to crash at least for a little while. I'll post some quick snapshots we took of some of our work tomorrow.

Style Sheets are HARD

I've been working forever to try to figure out how to pull the body of these posts up next to the floated menu, but it won't start until below it for some reason. The only exception is when I manually float the post part of my style sheet to float left, but then if a post doesn't span the entire main body, another will butt up next to it, so I'll have two posts horizontally on one line. WEIRD! If any random people see this post, know something about style sheets, and know what I might be able to do to fix it, please let me know! Otherwise, I'll just keep trial and error crap with it.

Newest Template

Now I just need to come up with a good banner for the top of the site. I like playing in the HTML, though I'm not real good with it. I wonder what I can put up at the top that would adequately sum up this site as my digital home.

Waiting on Sean

I'm bored, so I decided to post on the blog while I wait for Sean to sign into the game. He's slow as molasses, on his FAST days. I'm still working on the template for the site. I'd like to have a new one up this weekend, but we'll see.

I don't know exactly how this will work. I just wanted to see how a standalone Windows app for posting to the blog would work. I also don't know how posting pics would be, so here's a test of that, too.. on a pic I made today.

This concludes the test of w.Bloggar.

Going to see the President

It's about 6:45am, and I'm getting ready to leave the station to help cover the President's visit to Hopkinsville today. He's going to be pushing his Social Security reform plans. This should be SO cool! I've never done anything like this before. In fact, I've never gone out with a field crew before, so this will be a completely new experience for me. Woo-hoo! I'll be updating news25.us periodically throughout the day, so keep an eye out for it. Later..

Back to Blogging

I've been gone for a long time. I just can't seem to get into the groove of writing on this thing. I'm back in Evansville after returning from Los Angeles for E3. It was great, and I'll have pics and vid up soon, but for now, I'm gearing up for the next episode of ActionCorp TV. Hopefully, it will be a better, more comprehensive look at E3, and what's coming up in the future. I'm also getting back into Star Wars Galaxies, which is fun after just having seen the movie. When Chad gets settled in, we'll be able to play again and level up quicker.

Exceeding Expectations

The PSP is SO much better than I had anticipated. Probably most surprising is the screen. Its clarity is PHENOMENAL. Since the unit came with the UMD version of the Spider-Man 2 film, its showcasing its ability extremely early. The demo disc is a little on the weak side, but the movies are pretty high-res and can give you a good idea of what the games would look like. The "dashboard" is also incredibly cool. Lots of access to settings to the usual stuff (time, date, nickname, etc.) and I can't WAIT to get home and set up the wireless networking stuff. In wondering why the ugly lime-green color couldn't be changed, we discovered it changes by itself on the first of each month. Don't know if that's going to be an unadjustable feature, but the Network Update option looks REALLY interesting. When I click it, it immediately tells me I need to set up the network first. WEIRD!! These pics do NOT do the system justice AT ALL! I'll take some pics with Lindsay's camera tonight. It's gorgeous, and after I copy some music to it, and some small videos, (seeing as how I now only have a 32mb stick), I feel I'll be that much more happy with the purchase. More later...

PSP Tomorrow

Well, after what seems like an eternity since its unveiling last year, tomorrow I'll own a PSP. I'll have plenty of photos up tomorrow, with a link to my TextAmerica moblog. And I'm working now on the look for the new and improved sethcheek.com. On a more of a bummer note, I'm having some outage problems with the site. I can get into it through FTP, but the name's not successfully pushing here, at least as of 6pm tonight. Hopefully everything will be back up and running for tomorrow.

The Waiting Game

My friend IceAge made me the counter I've been wanting. Here's a screengrab.

It sits on my desktop and tells me exactly how long I have to wait until Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. A little over two weeks away, but with the PSP only 8 days away, it should be able to tide me over.

Funny that the $200 system is a pacifier for the $50 game. Well, at least for now. I know I'll get plenty of use out of it in the future, especially with my much-talked-about trip to LA.

eBay Stuff, Round 1

Just put a bunch of stuff on eBay. I hope to make POSSIBLY $150 or so with all of this, but whatever I get will be nice. Anything will help for my super expensive trip to E3 this summer. I need to figure out just exactly what I need to take with me to maximize the trip out there, including cameras, video cam, connectivity, etc. I'd also like to tour G4 while I'm there. It'd be neat to see the inner workings of that place. Anyway, if you'd like to see what I've got available, click here. Otherwise, don't. See if I care.

SC:CT OST on iTunes

I bought the Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory soundtrack from iTunes last night. A guy named Amon Tobin scored the game. He's kind of a techno guy, so a lot of people were skeptical whether it would sound right and fit into a game with a kind of non-melodious score, but I kind of like it. It seems to add to the tension, or at least it did in the demo.

If you want to hear samples from iTunes, click here.

Star Wars III Trailer

I liked it. It just seems like there's SO much to cover in this movie, that it would be hard to screw it up. If you'd like to see it, here's a link to the Quicktime. Enjoy!

mo:Blog isn't bad

I used mo:Blog 1.6 to post the previous message to the site. Not bad. It didn't work with the Title correctly, but other than that, it was smooth and easy. I may have to buy that before I take off. I need a countdown to E3 up here, I think. I'm going to ask IceAge for that.
Test from my Treo
Here's an entry from my Treo. This might be just what I need for mobile posting. More, later, when I find out how well/poor this does...

'Hello' Sucks

Sharing pics straight from the web with Hello doesn't work right. I suppose it would be alright if I wanted to show an entire webpage, but just for an individual pic, I'd still have to download it, then upload it with Hello. Not a good method, in my opinion. I'm on the hunt now for the best, smoothest blog tools. Hello is alright for already done pics, but not for direct sending to the blog.

This is a random pic, just for me to test the "Hello" plugin for IE that lets me send a photo straight from the net to my blog.  Posted by Hello

Setting Up HDMI is HARD

I'm still messing with all the settings on this Media Center/HDTV thing. It's insane to get it to work, but I think I've almost got it. The problem is I may need to download Powerstrip to do it, and I HATE that I need some stupid third party thing to change a resolution that Windows and I BOTH know should work anyway. Stupid configurating...

Okay, figured out the title thing

It isn't the link thing, it's a separate field you can enter, but you have to have it turned on in the settings. I feel a little bit better about it, now that I can look at the posts by title, instead of fragmented sentences, along the sidebar. Not that anyone but me cares, but it's done. If you don't care about the mundane things of my life, why the crap are you reading this?!?
I'm not sure exactly how the link field works. If it's just in place of a title, then I like it. If it's not, I won't. Tonight I plan on creating a custom theme for my new blog, so I can have a rocking site to have E3 updates. The test commences... NOW

Here's the new cable I bought for my HDTV to hook to my Media Center PC. Can't wait to get home and mess with it!! Posted by Hello

Tonight, I begin my martial arts classes. My plan is to trick myself into working out, by imagining that I'm becoming the next Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan. NOT, I repeat, NOT Steven Seagal. Don't know whether it will work or not, but I want to try. Still counting the days till my trip to Los Angeles. It's going to be a fun summer!!

My new photo blog is up and running. I'm not sure if this is the way to do it, though, separating my pointless thoughts from my pointless pictures. Check it out:

Sunday, February 20, 2005

My new TV is incredible. Especially with Windows Media Center hooked up to it. In fact, I've got it set up in Widescreen, so the menus look PRETTY. Got the new remote on its way, then I'll be in HD heaven. Oh, and Splinter Cell is amazing on it. More later...

Friday, February 18, 2005

Back on the blog. I've been unable to access my host for a while, because I didn't ever ask anyone how to get on any other way, but now I'm back. Tomorrow's a big day for me. It's my first foray into the world of HDTV. I've bought the Sony 30" Widescreen HDTV.

And since my other half has said she didn't necessarily care where it went, and armed with the knowledge that I'd want to play Xbox on it a lot, it's going into my "office". My main concern now is that my entertainment hutch may not hold it up. It apparently weighs 150lbs! No tuner, that's the main bummer, but I figure if I ever get cable with HD service, the box will have its own tuner anyway. I'm still trying to push for a new ActionCorp TV episode, but the response from the other guys has been less than stellar. I suppose I could turn some stuff on my own. I just like having stuff out there. It's fun to create and share our thoughts and reviews with others. Oh, well. Hopefully I'll get off my ass more often and post to this, but it seems to come in spurts. Here's hoping I write tomorrow. Whether anyone else feels the same, I do not know..

Monday, January 10, 2005

It's my first day back to my old job since a week and a half ago. It was good to be back. I really enjoy creating graphics and webpages ( at least, what little I can do with WorldNow's limited interface). I still wish video were on its way, but I suppose I might learn about that in the upcoming weeks. Second night of 24 was very good. I think it could be a new favorite. Still trying to figure out just what to do with the PSOne screens. They're nothing like Craig's new 42" plasma TV he won on some crazy-ass web contest. Poor Craig.

Sunday, January 09, 2005

So I just watched 24's Season 4 premiere. It was incredible! I didn't realize what I've been missing. It was a great combo of Alias, Tom Clancy stuff and gritty cop dramas. Neat premise, too. Now, I've borrowed my Dad's Season One DVD's, so I can catch up to what's going on. I hope the season continues at the same pace as the premiere. Can't wait until tomorrow night's second round of episodes. Also, I picked up two of these today:

Sony PSOne Screen

They were only $35 at Toys R Us today. Don't know exactly what I'm going to do with them yet, but I've got a few ideas, including a possible portable media center. Can't wait to go back to my regular job, now that Pumo's back to produce his shows. But I really can't wait until we get streaming video on the site. Good night.
Okay, I'm back. I think I want to design a new site that isn't as crappy as it is now. I'm taking some online sessions with Flash MX. I'd like to at least be able to do some sort of interactive banner. We'll see.
